Yatsenyuk has given additional guarantees in respect of the application of the Russian language
Appointed by the Verkhovna Rada, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk promised to decentralize power and gave the regions of safeguards regarding the use of the Russian language.
Yatsenyuk promised " to follow the path of decentralization of power " by registering changes in the Constitution." within the framework of the constitutional reform we need not only to hold a dialogue, and to finish it - sign " with the participation of all political forces a draft Constitution, said Yatseniuk, ITAR-TASS reported. Touching upon the issue of the use of the Russian language, he expressed the opinion that the changes in the Constitution have the opportunity to provide " additional guarantees in respect of the application of the Russian language and languages of national minorities if appropriate councils decide about it." We emphasize that this is not the first such promise. At the end of April the Cabinet of Ministers had already made a statement in which he pledged " to listen to all legitimate political demands of the Ukrainians in the East and in the West." At the same time, Yatsenyuk said that Kyiv is ready to provide additional guarantees of the status of the Russian language and other languages in the East of Ukraine. Remember, in February of people's deputies of the Verkhovna Rada has cancelled the law " on state language policy, " which gave the Russian language the status of regional, where it is native for at least 10% of the population, in 13 out of 27 regions. Parliament's decision provoked unrest in the South, South-East of Ukraine and in Crimea. Because of this, the Acting President of Ukraine, Parliament speaker Oleksandr Turchynov has not signed an order to abolish this law. In April, the Rada has developed a new draft law on languages. For it was taken as a basis the draft law, first developed by a group of specialists under the leadership of ex-President Leonid Kravchuk.
