If Kyiv decides to stop the transit of gas from Russia, energy security of Ukraine will suffer stronger than the energy security of the European Union, according to the Fitch Ratings.

The law, approved by the Ukrainian Parliament on August 14, enables the country to impose sanctions against foreign organizations and physical violence. One possible option is to ban Gazprom to transitivity gas through the territory of Ukraine and the requirement of its sale on the Eastern border of Ukraine. All this underlines Fitch, will require revision of contracts between Gazprom, Naftogaz and European buyers through the negotiation process, which is expected to begin in early autumn.
