Appathurai: Georgia have the opportunity to keep in NATO because of political persecution
If NATO anchored the impression that Georgia is provided persecution on political grounds, it may prevent her from becoming a member of the Commonwealth, said on Thursday the special representative of the Secretary General of NATO's James Appathurai, explaining the recent events surrounding the defense Ministry.

As recalled, once the Chief Prosecutor's office of Georgia has initiated several criminal cases against the bureaucrats of the Ministry of defense, at the time head of the Ministry of defense Irakli Alasania said that against the defense Department is " targeted attack aimed at disrupting the country's integration into Euro-Atlantic structures. After a couple of hours Alasania was otronen the performance of their duties as defense Minister.

" Without any doubt I can say that with the Minister Alasania we had a brilliant collaboration, " said Appathurai.

" We are alarmed that the impression that Georgia can be political persecution. May not even be the impression that something is happening on political grounds, because If this feeling will spread and persist in the capitals of the countries participating in NATO, it can become a barrier to integration into NATO, " he said.

along with this, according to him, the decision by the North Atlantic Commonwealth about the fact that Georgia will become a NATO member, as long as it remains in force.

" The Bucharest decision remains in force, it is a political decision of NATO. Its structure and essence of a package of measures to rapprochement with the Alliance as amended) is designed to assist Georgia in the way of accession to NATO, " said Appathurai.

Institutional cooperation between Georgia and NATO began in 1994, when Georgia became a member of the Partnership for peace (PfP - Parntnership for Peace). After the " rose revolution " in 2004 the cooperation between Georgia and NATO became more intense. In April 2008 in Bucharest at the conference of heads of NATO members, it was confirmed that Georgia and Ukraine in the future have the opportunity to become members of NATO - subject to compliance with the standards of the Commonwealth.
