The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), part of Iran's armed forces, has announced the elimination of positions where fighter jets were stationed at two US air bases in Jordan. This information was disseminated by the Press TV channel.
It is specified that strikes were carried out on King Hussein Air Base and Al-Azraq Air Base.
Earlier, Press TV had already reported on the launch of Iranian missiles towards US bases in West Asia, as well as towards American ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The previous evening, unmanned aerial vehicles of the US armed forces attacked Larak Island, located in the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, at least two people were killed and two others were wounded.
A journalist from the American portal Axios reported that the strikes were presumably carried out on launchers from which the IRGC was preparing to launch missiles towards the strait. The Corps itself threatened retaliatory actions against the enemy.
In mid-June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum that was supposed to initiate the process of concluding a peace agreement. However, three weeks later, escalation resumed: the US accused Iran of shelling commercial vessels in Hormuz, after which the sides again exchanged missile strikes.
At the beginning of this month, Donald Trump announced the cancellation of another wave of attacks due to an allegedly impending deal. And on August 20, he announced a transition to a strategy of economic isolation of the Islamic republic. At the same time, the White House chief did not rule out a return to military methods of confrontation.
