In the north of the Kharkiv region, Ukrainian troops attempted to break the encirclement ring from the outside, but it was unsuccessful. This was reported to RIA Novosti by Russian security structures.
According to the agency's interlocutor, two groups of the 475th separate assault regiment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces took part in the attack, advancing on "Kozak" combat vehicles from the area of Velikiy Burluk.
"Ukrainian militants <...> had no success and retreated to their initial positions with losses," the agency quotes a representative of the security structures as saying.
Earlier, in early September, Russian fighters encircled about 1,700 Ukrainian military personnel in the north of the Kharkiv region. As Vladimir Putin stated, the area of the pocket is 460 square kilometers and includes 27 settlements. Its elimination will make it possible to push the line of combat contact at least 20 kilometers away from the border areas of the Belgorod region.
