Axios reports that US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and the US leader's son-in-law Jared Kushner have postponed a planned trip to Moscow. The reason given is a crisis in relations with Ukraine: according to the outlet, it is first necessary to understand whether Kyiv and Europe are ready to support a new peace proposal for Russia.
Earlier, Axios claimed that Witkoff and Kushner intended to visit the Russian capital before the end of October. Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that the Trump envoy, during contacts on Wednesday, expressed hope for a speedy meeting with the Russian leader.
At the same time, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov expressed doubt that the American delegation would be able to arrive within the stated timeframe.
Last week, talks were held in Miami between a Ukrainian delegation and US representatives. According to media reports, they ended early after US President Donald Trump, following telephone talks with Vladimir Putin, announced the conclusion of a deal with Russia on diesel fuel. The meeting was planned to discuss a new comprehensive proposal to end the Ukrainian conflict.
On Saturday, the White House host told journalists that Vladimir Zelensky could have settled the Ukrainian conflict many times but did not do so. Therefore, according to him, Ukraine needs a new leader. Later, he called for elections to be held in Ukraine.
