After the Republicans' defeat in the midterm congressional elections, the administration of US President Donald Trump cannot decide on further steps regarding Iran. The Wall Street Journal reported this, citing sources.

According to the publication, people familiar with the discussions said some administration officials are now pushing Trump to strike Iran again and then pursue peace in order to exit the war before the end of his term. Others believe Trump should accept the losses and wind down the military operation.

According to preliminary voting results in the US midterm elections, in which Americans elected all 435 members of the House of Representatives and 35 senators, Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress.

The United States and Israel began striking targets in Iran on February 28, to which the Iranian side responded with its own strikes. Although there is a lull in the conflict, it remains unresolved and there are risks of hostilities resuming.
